Why would I want my child to see a psychologist?
Your child might be experiencing some difficulties at school, with their learning or their peer group. Or, perhaps your child is feeling unusually anxious, unhappy or angry. Rising High would work with your child to assist them, and the family, to bring about positive change.
How do I refer my child to Rising High?

How can I speak to my child about seeing a psychologist?
You obviously have some concerns about your child’s current difficulties and you have decided seeing a psychologist is the best course of action to support your child through this challenging time. Typically, children take their parents’ lead. Therefore, it is important to acknowledge your child’s feelings and current situation and tell them that a psychologist, such as Sarah, can help them through this tricky time and give them strategies to support them.
The school has spoken to me as they are concerned about my child’s learning.
They have recommended a psychologist assess my child. What should I do next?
If you call Rising High, we would obtain more details regarding the teacher’s concerns, obtain your opinion, then recommend a plan of action, which may involve a cognitive and academic assessment.
I am thinking about sending my child to Prep next year but he/she are still
young (i.e. Jan-March baby) and I am not sure if they will cope with the school
demands?
Rising High is very experienced in assessing children for school readiness. This is done by meeting you and your child to conduct the appropriate assessments and observing your child in the kindergarten setting.
I, or the school, think my child may be in the gifted range of ability and I would like to establish my child’s learning strengths to better plan their education.
If you call Rising High, we would obtain more details regarding your child’s learning from both yours, and the school’s, perspective. Rising High would conduct the appropriate assessments to establish your child’s cognitive abilities. A report would be generated for you and your child’s school.
I am concerned about my child’s recent changes in behaviour and/or emotions.
What should I do?
You can choose to call Rising High directly and make an appointment to discuss a plan of action or;
You may wish to visit your General Practioner (GP) and obtain a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) related to your child’s presenting issues, and then call Rising High to make an appointment under the MHCP, which attracts a rebate.
